Center for Legal Research

The Bolivian Private University’s Center for Legal Research (known as CIJ-UPB by its acronym in Spanish) stands as a trailblazing institution dedicated to the study and advancement of transformative law. By concentrating on fields such as civil, commercial, financial, securities, and insurance law, the Center distinguishes itself within both the academic and legal arenas, offering novel and substantial contributions to legal knowledge, policy development, and societal strategies.

CIJ-UPB’s research endeavors aim to pinpoint and surmount legal obstacles that impede the region’s economic growth. These projects tackle crucial matters, including the recodification of private law, bankruptcy and corporate restructuring legislation, securities market regulation, and the analysis of international commercial contracts and agreements. Furthermore, CIJ-UPB is devoted to education and university outreach, organizing seminars, workshops, and conferences to share legal and regulatory knowledge and best practices with legal professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, and engaged members of civil society who are committed to the region’s economic progress.

The CIJ-UPB posits that in the absence of economic growth, a state cannot ensure the fundamental liberties, and human, social and economic rights, indispensable for 21st-century societies to thrive in peace and harmony. Achieving sought-after living standards and well-being for our region hinges on cultivating a favorable legal landscape that fosters economic development. Our perspective extends beyond the belief that collaboration between public and private sectors is crucial; we also recognize that the legal science has overlooked a critical area. Our center is dedicated to addressing this gap by focusing on the study of transformative law, thereby supplementing social and economic constitutionalism and reinforcing both the international and inter-American human rights frameworks.
