Research Interests

His main research interests include:

  • Private legal systems in common law jurisdictions and civil law regimes.
  • Roman law.
  • Spanish colonial law.
  • Economic analysis of law.
  • Mechanism design theory.
  • Use of plain language in the legal field.

Teaching and Academic Experience
  • Currently serving as a research professor at the Institute for Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and as an honorary researcher at Universidad Privada Boliviana and Escuela Libre de Derecho.
  • Previously taught at United States law schools, including IIT/Chicago-Kent (2001-2005) and FIU/Diaz-Balart (2010-2012).
  • Taught at Mexican law schools such as IIJ-UNAM (2009-2023), ITAM (2008-2009, 2013-2016, and 2018-2019), Tec de Monterrey (2007-2008 and 2018-2019), and ELD (2009), as well as Mexican judicial schools like TSJCDMX (2009, 2011, and 2014), PJEHidalgo (2012-14, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2022), PJEVeracruz (2014), and PJECampeche (2014).
  • Taught at law schools in the region, such as UBA (2006) and UTDT (2006) in Argentina, and UFM (2009) in Guatemala.
  • Held the position of director of the Judicial Training Program for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Law and Economics Center of George Mason University, Virginia, USA (2006-2010) - with programs at the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in Mexico City and the Supreme Federal Tribunal in Brasilia.
